Grey Gardens

I just finished watching Grey Gardens, recommended to me by Twittering Bird. I thought it was a strange, yet interesting documentary. For anyone who has not seen it, this film is about a mother and daughter who live together, both named Edith Bouvier, relatives of Jackie O. The movie starts with clippings discussing the rundown condition of the house these women live in. They are subject to raids by the city, the house is falling apart and full of fleas and cats. The rest of the fillm documents their daily lives as their house is restored, thanks to money from Jackie. I don't want to say to much more, as I suggest you see it for yourself if you haven't already. I will say that I was drawn into the enmeshed lives of these two women. It was sad to see the pictures of these women in their prime, vibrant and beautiful. The daughter, Edie, does steal the show. She has an odd sense of style, I really like the scarfs and bathing suits she wore. I can see why people in fashion or design would find her fascinating. She also had a truly unique affect. She was well educated, yet often comes off as a child, even though she is in her fifties. She also has the speaking voice of a stage actress. This is a women who really should have been famous.

In the second documentary of previously unreleased footage, little Edie comments on her perceived schizophrenia. I'll have to let you borrow.

That makes sense, I couldn't figure out if she had arrested development, or was mentally ill. gs is going to watch now as well, I watched it by myself.
